Breakfast Granola Recipe

Homemade granola is a great way to start the day. I use walnuts, but you could use pecan halves, chopped almonds or chopped cashews. I also add falxseed sometimes.

Mix & Match – let me know if you come up with a great recipe for granola – Enjoy

Valentine B&B Granola

6 cups Large flake rolled oats

1 cup wheat germ

1 cup chopped walnuts

¾ cup sunflower seeds

1/3 cup sesame seeds

1 cup coconut

1 cup water

½ cup honey

½ cup brown sugar, packed

6 tbsp. Oil

1 tsp. Vanilla

1 tsp. Maple flavoring

1 cup raisins or dried cranberries

combine first 6 ingredients in bowl

measure water, honey, sugar, oil, vanilla & maple flavoring into saucepan. Heat and stir until liquid. Pour over dry mixture. Stir well to coat. Divide between two large ungreased baking sheets with sides. Bake on separate racks in 300 F oven for 30- 40 minutes, stirring after each 10 minutes.

Stir in raisins. Cool before storing in airtight container

Makes 11 cups

Friday night under the stars at Jackson-Triggs Winery amphitheatre, I had the opportunity to see The Canadian Tenors perform at the 1^st annual Doors Open Niagara Benefit Concert. Now in its 9th year, and part of the international Doors Open program that began in France in 1984.

The Binational Doors Open Niagara weekend will take place on October 16th & 17th, 2010. Concerts at Queenston Heights Park

Enjoy the Sound of Music this Summer at Queenston Heights Park

Nothing speaks more of summer than an enjoyable Sunday afternoon concert in the park. Located at the band shell in the historic Queenston Heights Park, visitors can enjoy these outdoor summer concerts while they picnic or stroll through the park. Enjoy a leisurely brunch at Queenston Heights Restaurant before the concert begins, or stay after the show for an early dinner and watch the sunset over Lake Ontario horizon.

From the sounds of big band and concert bands to jazz and the swing of Dixie, all concerts will be free to the public, and donations for the bands will be gratefully accepted. All concerts run from 2 – 4 p.m. and visitors are advised to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs.

Light Lunch in Niagara

The Pie Plate www.thepieplate.com is a small bakery and cafe with sandwiches and gourmet thin crust pizzas. Do save room for the homemade pies. Everything is made from scratch.

Ravine Vineyard www.ravinevineyard.com I love this place for food and the view of the vineyard. They have a wood fired oven that they use each day to make home made breads. Also have great cheeses, soups and sandwiches, pastries and desserts.

Kurtz Orchards www.kurtzorchards.com along the Niagara Parkway you can pick up a boxed picnic lunch.

Southbrook Winery www.southbrook.com They have a pizza patio in the summer. Enjoy the pizza with a glass of wine and maybe you may see the sheep grazing in the vineyard next to the patio. Great experience.

Another stop should be to the orchard on the Parkway between Niagara on the Lake and Niagara Falls.
